As I put my feet on the pedals this past Saturday, I knew exactly where I wanted to cycle with my fiancé. It was a beautiful day, with the English sun finally shining bright. On a perfect spring day like this, there is nothing better than brushing the dust of your sunglasses, picking up lunch and watching the world go by from the comfort of a park.
To Hampstead we went, with
Kenwood House as our goal. After cycling up Haverstock Hill, you'll definitely want to relax and recover. We pick up a bottle of Champagne, take-away from the High Street, and head to Kenwood House. Tucked into
Hampstead Heath, in NW3, Kenwood House provides a picturesque backdrop to your lazy Saturday afternoon. Seek out a water front view, pop open the Champagne and breathe in the fresh smells of spring.
Keep in mind that you are not the only one with this great idea, as you are sure to have company on the grass. As I look around me, there are couples cuddling up, families meeting up and children playing football. As an expat living here, I constantly get asked, "What should I do when I visit London?" Spending time in the heath makes it easy to see why this is top of my list. There are not many other places in such a culturally rich and cosmopolitan city such as London that you can find this peace and tranquility.
As my fiancé raises a glass, he asks me;
"
What are we toasting to?"
To which I replied;
"
To days like this."
*It is possible to tour Kenwood House - which has been converted into a museum - however, I have omitted this here as it is a day on its own, and the only thing you should be concerned about on a sunny day is relaxing and staying hydrated - top up that champagne!
