Acclaimed British musician Kele Okereke returns to our shores as part of the 2011 Splendour In The Grass line-up. In addition to the anticipated festival performances, Kele also has sideshows lined up in various Australian cities in early August.
Kele, the charismatic frontman of British rock band Bloc Party, released his début solo album The Boxer, in June 2010. The Boxer, which is an alternative dance, electro house album, did relatively well commercially and critically. 'Tenderoni' was the first single release, and was followed by the second single, 'Everything You Wanted.'
The electronic soundscape of The Boxer is not entirely 'new' to fans of Bloc Party, or Kele for that matter. Kele's distinctive vocals led the classic Chemical Brothers track 'Believe' in 2005 and the Martin Solveig track 'Ready 2 Go,' which was released this year.
With a new Bloc Party album in the works, these Australian shows appear to be the final leg of Kele's solo world tour. The setlists for tour have largely been centred around The Boxer, however a Bloc Party 'melody' is usually performed, which includes live versions of 'Little Thoughts,' 'The Prayer' and 'One More Chance.' 'Flux' is also occasionally performed live.
If you are a fan of Bloc Party and/or Kele don't miss out on these nightclub gigs and don't be surprised if there is a DJ set or two.
