Well, hasn't Manly just become the trendiest little restaurant hub of late? All they need to throw in a few more niche market boutiques and we could start calling it Bulimba by the sea! I can understand why too, on a clear day it really is a delightful location to sit back and take in the sea air.

Keith's on Cambridge is ideally situated to take in both the sea air and the view of the adjacent boat harbour. It has pleasant decor with a range of local artwork on the walls available for purchase. The cafe serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and cake and even tapas. We went for lunch, and when it comes to this specific menu, it's not really a huge one, but I'd be willing to bet that there is something on there to please most tastes. Don't go by the lunch menu on the website either, it obviously needs updating.

My only real disappointment with the establishment came early on. I went there of a mind to eat a nice piece of grilled fish, we had in fact intended to go to Fish Cafe across the road but had been turned away due to a function. The waitress left to find out what the fish of the day was and - there was no grilled fish. Oh well - I was hungry so I soon found another option in the salt and pepper calamari served with an Asian style salad. Even though it wouldn't have been my first choice the calamari was delicious. Each piece was covered in a well seasoned light crumb and was not at all tough or chewy. The salad was fresh, ample and well dressed although I'm not quite sure where the Asian inspiration came from. I half expected a few noodles or something but maybe they were out of those as well.

My mum decided to go for the crumbed fish of the day which was Blue Eyed Cod. She also enjoyed her meal, said the fish was very tasty and had a fairly similar salad to that which was served with the calamari. I can also personally vouch for her tasty seasoned chips as I enjoyed quite a few of them myself - so much for my healthy salad ideals for the day!

So overall Keith's is a good little cafe. It's got a great location, a nice bit of ambience in itself and some lovely staff. We enjoyed our meals but it's really not cheap. Lunch for two is going to set you back around $50 with drinks and I'm just not quite sure that they are quite up to that standard yet. On the upside though they're not too far off so with a few tweaks I think this little cafe could become something a little bit special.

Until next time
