Water Views, cold drinks and a microphone, equals one thing - Karaoke at The Grand Hotel on the Gold Coast.
Every Monday night from 7pm, the Grand Hotel in Labrador, right on the Broadwater offers a great night of live entertainment, brought to you by - you! Grab some friends, choose your favourite pop song and sing like no one is watching.
You can find the Grand Hotel on the spectacular Gold Coast Broadwater in Labrador, about a 50 minute drive south of Brisbane City.
Not only does the waterside hotel dubbed "The Grand" by locals offer ice cold drinks and delicious cocktails, there are three restaurants to choose from to fill up on food for fuel before taking to the stage.
My personal favourite,
Kokonut Willy's is casual and laid back with the waiters, waitresses and bar tenders wearing bright Hawaiian shirts and a huge smile. The menu, also known as the "Kokonut Willy's Food Journey," caters for all ages and tastes with children's meals and traditional pub food for the adults but if you like exotic cuisine, there's plenty on offer. There's a huge variety of pizza and pasta and for seafood lovers, oysters mornay, fresh fish and salad, smoked salmon and char grilled octopus.
One of my favourite dishes on the "Food Journey" can be found in the entrée section called 'The Penne Prawns Grand Affair.' A delicious concoction of green prawns, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, snow peas and finished with a tasty sauce. This meal is $22, quite pricey for an entrée but the prawns couldn't be fresher unless you dived into the ocean and fetched them yourself.
If you're planning to get on stage to belt out your favourites, don't fill up too much-save room for the champagne you're going to need for confidence. And the perfect place to sip on the liquid gold is the Grand Hotel's exquisite 360 bar. With over 60 wines you can purchase by the glass and exotic cocktails, there's no better place to take the girls for a drink, giggle and warm up the vocals. Just remember there is work tomorrow, so don't go overboard.
So it's 7pm, you're stomach starts fluttering, you can see the karaoke gear is set up and ready to go on stage, the crowd have their drinks ready facing the spotlight, the teams are flicking through the song book selecting their songs - it's showtime.
The patrons at The Grand are always out to have fun and a laugh with laxed attitudes, (that's why they are by the beach with a cold beer in hand.) so don't stress. You're almost guaranteed an applause on Monday night Karaoke.
This particular evening was my birthday and while my friends were so kind to request that I sing 'Oops I did it again,' by Britney, I politely declined. Together we ended up singing a very out-of-tune version of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.
Free drinks are awarded to King and Queen of the mic and there will be plenty of happy snaps that will make you wish you never activated a Facebook account.
