The co-ordinators behind
Boots'n Bulldust are calling for volunteers to join the Mud Army.
Boots'n Bulldust, a not-for-profit organisation founded to help local residents battling depression, are asking for people to help clean up properties in the South Burnett and Yarraman regions, north-west of Brisbane. At present, their focus is on assisting farms in the area. Interested parties can register by calling the organisation on (07) 4163 2116 or 0423 830 224. Farmers who require assistance are also urged to call.
Co-ordinators will place volunteers with farms, where duties will involve things like cleaning fences and clearing paddocks. Those who are unable to do the heavy work can still help out with tasks such as making refreshments for the volunteers, driving the utes, and helping with administrative tasks.
The
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has also set up an outreach centre at the Laidley Council Officer on
Spicer Street, with the assistance of the SES. Volunteers can show up between 8.30am and 5.30pm to find out where they are needed. Organisers ask that interested parties bring photo ID, food and water, and wear closed in shoes, long pants, sunscreen and a hat. Useful equipment like brooms, spades and wheelbarrows are also appreciated. For more information, call the Council office on 1300 005 872.
According to
Volunteering QLD CEO Jelenko Dragisic , the need for volunteers will continue for weeks and months. He urges Queenslanders to
register on the Volunteering QLD website or download their
READY QLD app so that these efforts can be sustained.
