A good book is like a treasure chest full of happiness. Flipping hungrily through the pages like a chocoholic craving the next sugary hit, you just can't get enough of the story, the imagery and the places the book takes you.

You become cocooned in another world, living, breathing and consumed by the book. As you triumphantly savor the last words and take that deep breath whilst pondering on the story, a sense of sadness overcomes you as it's all come to an end. The journey was thrilling, emotional, elevating and sometimes so inspiring, you change your entire perspective.

It isn't often that such books are drawn into your world, but when they are, you can't stop thinking about it. The ending, the story, the journey, the characters, the feelings it drew up - the whole book. A masterpiece. It becomes your topic of the week, talking about it at work, at social gatherings, even on the train with perfect strangers.

However, it can be quite disappointing when you realise most of the world hasn't read the book, let alone heard of it. Nor do they share your enthusiasm for it. 'Dude, like, I haven't read a book since the 4th grade'.

What a downer. If only they knew what they were missing. It's times like these you need to be part of something bigger, being able to share your enthusiasm with like minded book worms, and enjoy their opinions and perspectives. Your answer, a book-club.

Melbourne has such a wide variety of book clubs, you'll regret having a peek into this mysterious world. It may sound daunting to those who imagine it to be awkward conversations with people who are anti-social and needing the club to simply make friends, or have some sort of human contact as prescribed by their therapist. It is not so my friends. Expand your mind.

Book-clubs are in, and the best way to have healthy discussions on books you've savoured over a cup of coffee, glass of wine and even a hearty dinner. You'll be surprised who you meet, and will maybe even become good friends with these people who share your enthusiasm for your favourite genre, author or even just for books. Now who would want to miss that?

So if you're ready to hours of happy chatting and socialising, try Meetups!

Meetups is an website that brings together all the book lovers of Melbourne (or any city). There are so many groups, from Harry Potter fans, to the lovers of the classics. You're sure to find a club that suits you. So get online and find a club that suits you. You don't have to read into it too much if you don't want, just book it in and have fun!

I am not much of a book reader, but this article makes me want to cross that road...yet another beautiful piece by Nidhi.

Thanks Nidhi - it's a good suggestion to look at Meetup for a book club! I've had really positive experiences through Meetup - a while back I joined a French Meetup group and it's been a great way to share my interest in all things French with like-minded people. Now, if I can just squeeze in a bookclub as well...
