Whether you love or loathe the characters on the TV show , their original locale—Seaside Heights—is a beach destination suitable for a wild weekend, or a simple family day of fun and sun.

Scope out a spot on this sometimes-crowded beach in the morning. Soak in the rays then, when the sun gets too hot, walk up to one of the boardwalk vendors for classic Jersey junk food like sausage and peppers, pizza, or zeppoles (little balls of fried dough doused in powdered sugar). Back on the beach, the afternoon will be filled with people-watching and boogie-boarding in the cool Atlantic waves.

Kids and teens will love Breakwater Beach waterpark with slides and water fountains for all ages. Small tikes delight in the boardwalk's kiddie ride section and one of the only working antique carousels in the state.

As night falls, the mile-long boardwalk lights up with games of chance and dozens of rides. Hop on the log-flume and play skee-ball for some old-fashioned fun. Near the carousel, a "vintage" game room houses all your childhood faves, like Pac Man and Donkey Kong. Speed up your night with a whirl on the oceanfront rollercoaster then put your money on everything from cheap stuffed animals to iPads.

Finish the evening with an creamsicle soft-serve from Kohrs Brothers Frozen Custard—a classic since 1919—and don't forget the saltwater taffy for the ride home!
