Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds - Alive on Stage! The New Generation - Cinema Screening

The War of The Worlds - Alive on Stage! The New Generation - a new type of musical and this one you can see in the cinemas. Therefore you get to see a world-class musical show for just the cost of a cinema ticket.

In cinemas for the very first time, Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of The Worlds - Alive on Stage! The New Generation is coming to selected cinemas around Australia , in High Definition and 5.1 Surround Sound from May 24th, 2013.

I was honoured to be invited to the press screening of The War of The Worlds - Alive on Stage! The New Generation and have to say, I absolutely loved it.

It is the filmed version of the sold-out London 02 Arena spectacular held in December 2012, which is based on H. G. Wells' deep dark Victorian tale of a Martian invasion that took place in England.

I found it quite fascinating that the orchestra with over 45 members was actually part of the show and live on stage rather than in the orchestra pit. Guided by a fantastic conductor, Jeff Wayne, this show is partly a concert and partly a musical show - for those who love music concerts you'll be delighted with the show.

As probably one of the few people that had not read The War of The Worlds nor heard the musical score, everything about the show was new to me. I had no preconceived expectations and was able to just sit back and really enjoy a fantastic concert.

Towards the middle of act one, it was more of a concert than an actual show, however as we entered act two and towards the end, it was a classic musical, with amazing effects and esteemed cast.

One of the highlights is Liam Neeson who plays the role of George Herbert - the journalist and narrates most of the show. Yet the most fascinating part of his role in the production is that he is actually a hologram through the entire show. An amazing hologram that manages to interact with the cast and even at one stage, hand an actor a glass of water.

Some of the special effects of the show include CGI on a 100 foot wide animation wall along with pyrotechnics.

It is the perfect show for the entire family where things are brought to life on the big screen behind the actors and the orchestra. The children will be delighted in how the entire stage lights up with flames at one stage, seemingly cast by the Martians and their spaceship. This may be a little too full on for younger children but older ones will certainly appreciate it along with you.

It is an experience that really must be seen to be believed - this defies the standard rules of what a musical concert represents and takes it one step further. It is quite fascinating and something I would definitely choose to see again.
