I like to keep my hair cut short. If it gets too long, it can get horribly tangled and nothing enrages me more than getting a giant knot in my hair. I like to get a trim once every two to three months to keep my hair nice and neat. I usually just get my fringe trimmed back and my sides taken in and the back neatened up. This usually costs me around $30 to $35, which is what I like to pay for a cut. I won't go to a hair salon that charges more, because I don't think it is really good value for money for what I want. I just want a trim. It shouldn't cost me over $50.

I discovered JD House at Morley purely by accident. I saw a billboard for it that was advertising $10 haircuts for men, women and children. I thought wow - $10 haircuts for men, women and children? It's always bugged me how women tend to get charged more for haircuts than men. I was pretty intrigued at the concept of a salon that would charge men, women and children all the same price. I had to go and have a look at this place.

JD house is located in the Galleria shopping centre in Morley. It is open 9am to 5.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Thursdays, it is open from 9am to 9pm. Weekends it is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. It is located in between Target and Coles.

How it works is they have a ticket machine that accepts $5 or $10 notes. If you need change, the staff can exchange larger notes for smaller ones for you. The instructions how to use the ticket machine are easy to understand. You press the button on the machine and then feed it $10 and a ticket will come out the bottom with your ticket number on it. Take a seat and wait for your ticket number to be called.

The service at JD house really impressed me. When my number was called, I was ushered over to a chair and told to sit. My hairdresser took my bags and put them in a cupboard so they wouldn't have to sit on the floor and get hair on them. Nice!

If you have kids and need to get their hair cut…listen up. JD House has televisions built into the hair cutting stations and they play cartoons! There isn't any sound but that didn't bother my two-year-old. The televisions are just below the mirrors and at the perfect eye level for kids. I brought her to JD House to get her hair cut and she happily sat there and watched Donald Duck without sound, quite happily for about fifteen minutes while she had her hair cut. What a great idea!

They really have a good thing going at JD House. The prices, the service, and the set up are all really clever. I will definitely be going there again.
