There are many gastronomic adventures in Brisbane and one of the more unique establishments is the
Jaz Bar in Toowong. This is a concept restaurant and wine bar which, as the name suggests, has regular Jazz Instrumental sessions on Friday and Saturday nights with local talent. That is not to say there is nothing on offer any other night of the week as there are some fairly spectacular experiences to be had on the
menu as well.
If there was one reason to head down to the Jaz Bar, it would be to try out the stonegrill steaks. For anyone who just can't find steak cooked exactly to their liking, the Jaz Bar gives you the opportunity to make sure every bite of rich, tender beef is perfect. Their steaks are served completely rare, along with a super heated slab of volcanic rock. These stonegrills are heated in ovens overnight and used to cook the steak as you eat it. It provides a fantastic amount of theatre to the dining experience and is certainly a lot of fun with a group of friends. If steak isn't your thing however, they also offer a selection of Seafood and Chicken dishes on the stonegrills.
For those who prefer the cooking to be done by the chefs in the kitchen, they also offer plated mains. Just don't be jealous when you see the stonegrills come out. The desert menu is also elegant with classics like Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Lemon-Lime Tart. If you are feeling particularly indulgent though, there is a range of cocktail deserts served with a scoop of ice-cream to chill them.
Plated meals start at $18 and stonegrill meals at $25 so you can get haute cuisine at a fairly reasonable price. You can expect to eat a nice dinner for around $35 per person with a drink. If, however, you want to tour the menu a bit more, a budget of around $60 will make sure you don't miss out on anything. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the normal menu is unavailable and is replaced with a menu of current
specials.
The Jaz Bar is located in Toowong. It is a five minute walk from Toowong train station which provides the best access for anyone travelling from the CBD and there is plentiful parking at the venue. They are open for both lunch and dinner.
