Sun 21 May 2017
For the lovers of all things Japanese, or for those intrigued to learn more, the
is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture. Held on
Sunday 21 May from 10am to 5pm , you'll find the festival spread between the
Box Hill Town Hall (1000 - 1022 Whitehorse Rd, Box HIll) and
Box Hill TAFE. To find out more details about the event, head to the
Facebook page (the website needs to be translated to English by choosing the option provided) where you'll find maps of both the Town Hall and the TAFE, along with program of events.
Entry fees are Ages 12 and above $5, and ages 6 - 11 are $3. Children 5 and under go free. Entry is also free to disabled persons plus 1 carer and pensioners and seniors card holders. If you're in a Kimono, Yukata or in full Cosplay, entry is free to you as well. This festival supports the Japan Earthquakes Appeal as restorations continue.
Buy a
raffle ticket for $3 per ticket online to support the
Japan Club of Victoria and you may be surprised by the many prizes on offer, which is double of what was offered last year. Online tickets are only available until 3.30pm 21 May 2017. First prize is 2 airtickets to Japan, flying Japan Airlines plus 7 days JR Pass for 2 and a one night stay in Sydney and more! Valued at $4000, check
HERE for the rest of the amazing prizes.
Here are a few samples of what's in store on the Main Stage at the Town Hall. For all details, please check the
FB page as mentioned above.
1300 hrs - Students Drawing contest Awarding Ceremony
1325 hrs - Kimono Contest
1450 hrs - Cosplay Contest
1555 hrs - Raffle Draw
The Gawler Room, Second Stage on the 1st floor of the Town Hall will be having the Karaoke Contest at 1245 hrs, and like the contests carried out on the main stage, there are prizes to be won. After all this hungry work, you might want to head to the TAFE where the food court is.
Be sure to peruse the Main Hall Stage Program thoroughly for timeframes, so you don't miss out on the event you particularly want to watch. There's Kid's Taiko, Warrior Daiko, Choirs, Dance Fitness, Japanese Martial Arts, one of my personal favourites, Japanese Drumming by Wadaiko Rindo, and so much more between the Main and Gawler Room Stage.
The Recreation Area Program has the Animaga Maid Cafe (dance team), Taiko Demo and Workshop again by Wadaiko Rindo and more. Sounds like a massively fun day!
