Did you know there is a little piece of France in Mill Park? That's right, I said Mill Park! You might be thinking, Melbourne, yes, I can see that but Mill Park? The answer is YES; you can have a little taste of a French café right in Mill Park! I have been fortunate enough to have dined in some of Melbourne's best-kept secrets for several years now and will continue to share my favorite places with you but there are a few places I have discovered outside of Melbourne that are worth your time too. For those of you searching for a true culinary experience that your eyes will delight in, than explore no further!

Today, I'm spotlighting ; a family owned and operated French-styled restaurant, located in The Stables Shopping Centre on Childs Road. Unfortunately, there is only the one , but they will always fill your need for pastries, lattes and meals if you are in the area. You can find them tucked away in the leftmost corner of the shopping centre. Just look for the sign situated over the many tables and chairs placed outside their storefront and follow the delicious smells of their brand of traditional style food to their front door.

is the creation of Harry and Helen. The inspiration behind was their love of French foods and décor so they decided it was time to bring a taste of France to Australia and that's exactly what they did in 2010 when they opened their doors in Mill Park.

When you first walk into , you are immediately greeted by one of the owners, Harry or Helen or one of their many friendly staff. Harry and Helen, along with their daughter, Stephanie and their amazing team of employees will make you feel like you are visiting home instead of visiting a cozy restaurant.

The first time I visited many years ago; I couldn't help but notice their array of delectable desserts on display. Harry noticed my interest and we spoke for a moment, then he moved from behind the counter and stood next to me as I asked question after question about the yummy looking treasures on display. I did not think much of it at the time but I soon realised this is who Harry is, a genuine guy who enjoys his customers and is passionate about food. Matter of fact, you will find the same qualities in his employees. It doesn't matter if it's the first time or the hundredth visit; the staff at will always treat you with kind regard.

is modeled after a contemporary French restaurant with their charming outdoor area to their French-themed décor. This family owned and operated restaurant is a delight as are the owners and staff. Harry is a self-taught baker and pastry chef who has 13 years experience behind him. I once remarked to Harry on my first visit there that his bakery goods were so beautiful it would make Martha Stewart proud.

Frequent customers, Mary and Viky enjoy their lattes at . I asked them to describe their meal and their response was, "it's fresh and full of flavor with a twist" and I would agree with that statement.

When I asked Harry what his secret behind his amazing looking pastries were, he had this to say: "All cakes and pastries are made to order and always from scratch." They even start baking loaves of bread at 1:30am! Most of their other sweets are made in-house as well.


As if that wasn't enough, they have over 50 items on their menu from their signature dishes, Breaky Wrap for breakfast to their Open Souvlaki for lunch and dinner. Speaking of dinner, is now open for dinner on Thursday and Friday nights until 10:00pm.

Though does not change their menu, they do "often introduce special items each season," according to Harry. But with over 50 items on their menu, it would appear as though they have any craving you might be having covered.



Harry, Helen and their wonderful staff may have their personal favorite desserts, but they all agree that their "Lemon Lime Bitters receive(s) wonderful reviews." I have tasted their Lemon Lime Bitters and it is big and tasty but so is their Chocolate Mousse and Cream and Strawberry Roulade (Swiss Roll)!

Once you manage to take your eyes off their selection of desserts and pastries and are seated at your table, take a moment to enjoy the sounds, sights and smells of this French-styled café, who are licensed, in case you were wondering. Take notice of the Eiffel Tower from the "windows" situated on the back wall. Don't overlook the cute lanterns and stylish lightening throughout the restaurant either. The wooden shelving is chic, as is the décor. All of this together gives you the feeling of being in a French café.

is the first restaurant that I have visited where they do hot chocolate art! Sure, you have seen some amazing latte art but who does hot chocolate art? does! They also do latte art, adding a cute heart to every one of their lattes.



The meals and desserts can be hearty at so bring your appetite and do your best to save room for one of their many pastries and other desserts. There are so many meals to choose from with Jahdomes' big breakfast platters to a Tuna on Multigrain for lunch to a Chicken and Mushroom Risotto for dinner, just to name a few menu items. Despite my love of their Chocolate Mousse and Hot Chocolate, does offer an assortment of wines and soft drinks to choose from to enjoy with your meal or dessert.

I asked Harry about the secret to his success and this was his response: "We pride ourselves on our terrific customer service skills and our freshly baked sweets." I pressed Harry for which of those freshly baked sweets their primary customers ask for the most and he replied with this, "The locals and many workers from around The Stables Shopping Centre [have made] our homemade Vanilla Slice, by far, the best-selling cake."

Though I would love to be selfish and keep all to myself, I would feel remiss if I did not share the wonders of their delightful bakery goods and meals with you. This is one place that is too good to stay tucked away for long. Visit them today for a truly great dessert, hot beverage and meal before they become the hottest place in town.
