If you love dining at Dee Why Beachfront, then you will be excited to know the new has just opened this week. Last year Dee Why enjoyed the Crazy Donkey Greek Tapas Restaurant, now the same space has been taken over by .

Dee Why Beach is known for its great cafes, restaurants and bars. With commanding ocean views, long beach walks and great surf, it's also the perfect location for people watching. A popular location all year round, with all the charm of a beachfront village without the intensity of busy Manly. Owner and Chef Colin Bond has nailed it with his new tapas bar and restaurant.

Tapas and Wine Bar already has a huge following in the heart of Manly, so why not open another at Dee Why Beach. All food is sourced locally and ethically, using the highest quality of seasonal sustainable produce. Concentrating on using GMO-free food, the freshest seafood and all meats are hormone and chemical free coming from the green pastures of Cowra.

I dropped by a day after they opened and took a couple of day photos to show the fabulous location and ocean views. After a quick chat to the Manager, I decided to give them a couple of days to get into the groove and return one evening.

Word had spread in three days, already the place was full with happy patrons. The new space is bright and airy. Open plan with a long stylish bar finished in rustic timber, marble and mirrored tiles. A high communal bench table invites people to mingle, comfy banquettes line the eccentric mosaic walls covered in tiny colourful Spanish houses.

The high bar cornering the oven is a great spot to enjoy tapas washed down with your tipple of choice while watching mouthwatering roasted flat bread come out of the piping hot wood fired oven.

The place was buzzing. offers a special Happy Hour Tapas Menu Monday - Friday 12 pm - 7 pm - Tapas for $10, Cocktails $12, Anything on Tap $6.50 and House Wines $6.50.

I love the concept of Tapas, sharing food in several plates, not rushing, enjoying the social interaction of conversation bringing people closer.

We arrived before 7 pm, even though it was a busy night, the owner Colin Bond took the time to chat to us explaining the different menus, suggesting we might like to try the Happy Hour Tapas Menu. It all looked delicious.

I particularly love fish and noticed the Kingfish Tacos. Colin explained that it was a superlative sashimi grade Kingfish which was cured for 2 hours in Tequila and lime juice. I was keen and oh my I wasn't disappointed. It had to be the best kingfish I had tasted in a long while. Crunchy taco shells filled with a mix of fresh coriander, lime and avocado onion jam with tenderest tastiest kingfish that melted in my mouth.

Next I chose a plate of Croquetas and a plate of Sweet Potato. The Croquetas were coated in a fine crispy crumb, filled with field mushrooms and soft gooey pecorino cheese along with a side of truffle aioli. I could have eaten 3 plates of these cheesy babies and no doubt would have popped my jean's top button.

There were all sorts of dishes coming out of the kitchen gliding temptingly past us. The beauty of tapas is you can just graze on nibbles of food or just have a few plates as starters then go for a larger dish, possibly the Seafood Paella. If it's too hard to decide, you can choose a set menu which will take you through to dessert.

Of course don't forget dessert, maybe a nice Cheeseboard, Sticky Date Pudding, Crema Catalana, Rice Pudding, Affogato or Churros Sandwich.

If you are a wine lover you will be pleased with the list. A jug of Sangria of course and a good selection of Australian wines, wines from Spain, Chile and Argentina. Beer drinkers can enjoy some 4 Pines and Nomad Ales on tap $8, bottles of Dad & Daves #1 #2 , Estrella Galicia, San Miguel and Hillbilly Organic Cider $8.

I love a bar that you can sit at, maybe have a yarn with the bartender or watch talented mixologists designing cocktails. is just the place. You can also eat at the bar, which is ideal if you are dining alone or want to sit close for a quiet chat. I sometimes prefer it to the traditional table setting - facing each other across a table.

You will love day or evening. Friendly staff, fresh delicious food, fast service and a fun atmosphere - just what Dee Why Beach needs. They are so new, that there isn't a Dee Why Facebook or Website yet, if you want to know more just turn up or give them a call. Or check out Manly to get more details on type of food and wines.
