The morning after having one more wine than I should have had, I like nothing better than finding a traditional London 'Caff' to help soak the alcohol. Unfortunately some of them can be either expensive, or pretty unsanitary.
That is why I was so happy to have stumbled across Jack's Cafe.
Jack's Cafe is based near Clapham Junction station and has everything you want in a cafe, but in a bright, modern and clean environment. Open from early until evening, Jacks has a variety of all day breakfasts, bottomless tea and coffee, as well as homemade cakes and brownies.
What struck me from my first visit is the friendliness of all the staff. You pass the kitchen area as you walk in, and everyone greets you and asks how you are. This personal service is something I rarely find in London, as it is so vast, and there are so many people passing through, often staff do not put in the extra effort to get to know their customers.
I now feel like a regular, so I am more likely to return again and again, maybe I am enjoying a few more cooked breakfasts than I should be! I think best thing on the menu has to be the wide selection of all day breakfasts. Everything from eggs Benedict, to traditional American pancakes. You can choose one of their set menus or create your own. All their breakfasts come with endless tea or coffee.
They also do an array of sandwiches, jacket potatoes as well as traditional English meals. They also have daily specials, which can be anything from soup to curry.
They also do a take-away service, perfect for a quick sandwich at lunchtime! So if you are passing through the station, give them a visit, I promise you will leave feeling lifted out of the gloom that London transport sometimes causes, and most of all you will definitely feel full!
