For a fantastic family outing, head to Jackadder Lake in Woodlands.

There's a 1.2km path around the lake for cycling or walking, plenty of grass and a large shaded playground.

Barbecues, a water bubbler and picnic tables are also available.

The playground is unfenced but is far enough from the water to allow parents time to catch runaway kids before they reach the lake.

In addition to the usual playground equipment, there is a weird cross between a swing and a see-saw - a great arm muscle workout for adults if the child is using it alone.

My daughter was keen on exploring reeds at the edge of the lake and also enjoyed watching ducklings swim past with their mothers.

The lake is so pretty that wedding photographers use it as a photo location.

The name Jackadder is thought to come from Jackadup, the Aboriginal name for the area.
