Don't let the ultra-Japanese name fool you. Izakaya Fujiyama, located in Surry Hills, is more like a fusion restaurant than a restaurant that serves strictly authentic Japanese food.

You know how sometimes going out with a group of friends can be a blur? And I don't just mean because everyone has had too much to drink. Going out and trying Izakaya Fujiyama was a bit of a blur for me because firstly, I wasn't the one who ordered, and secondly, we all seemed too busy to catch up with each other.

However, I do remember some of the specific dishes that we ordered that night. They included:

Kenji's Fried Chicken" (comically known as KFC), which consists of "Karaage chicken with mayonnaise"
- "Three bean salad", which consists of "Three bean salad with sesame dressing"
- A salad with sweet tofu, which may or may not be the "Tofu salad" on their online menu (since Izakaya Fujiyama has special daily menus)
- A delicious dessert called "Tea ceremony", which consists of "Vanilla bean ice cream with green tea kokuto syrup"

My favourite dish of the night by far was the "Tea ceremony". I love eating anything with matcha (Japanese green tea powder), and the "green tea kokuto syrup" was absolutely delectable when mixed with the sweetness of the ice cream.

In conclusion, if you love large portions, Izakaya Fujiyama is probably not the place for you. However, if you really just want to find a new restaurant to try with a group of friends while catching up with them, Izakaya Fujiyama may just be your ideal place to go.
