The South Australian Museum is hosting a fascinating exhibition which looks at all things iridescent. Iridescence can be described as glowing rainbow like objects. Wonders of colour that occur in nature. That vivid electric set of colours that draw the eye to it. Iridescence is the phenomenon of colour without pigment, and exists in so many places in the natural world, more than one would expect.

The exhibition is described as scientific, informative, and stunningly beautiful. The works on show have been chosen from the museums extensive collection. The curators explore the concept of iridescence, its causes and many qualities.

The exhibition will include iridescent examples seen in Aboriginal pearl shells, opalised ammonite fossils, Birds of Paradise, and beetles and butterflies. Iridescence is an immersive exhibition experience showcasing the great beauties of nature.

The museum offers a great day out in the school holidays for all ages. There is the opportunity to explore the many wonders of the natural world. Pack a picnic and enjoy the surroundings on North Terrace along with the many other visitors.

The museum also has a great little café which is well patronised. Plus the museum shop which is selling the new range of iridescent inspired merchandise and a glorious range of other books, images and toys.
