I almost hesitate in writing about this place, as it's one of those 'hidden gems'. But then again, why not spread the wealth? Introducing the Ionian Star Hotel, Greece. Not on the Ionian Islands as it's name may suggest, but rather, in the Western Peloponnese's small seaside village of Tholo. Tholo (note: not the similarly named 'Tolo'), is between the larger townships of Zaharo and Kyparisia fringing the Ionian Sea. The Hotel's location is also 24kms from Ancient Olympia and 35kms from the lesser known Ancient Temple of Apollo.



But first things first when it comes to the hotel. Views! Phenomenal! The Ionian Star has fantastic views of the sea and surrounding countryside, as it's on an incline, but not too far from the vast expanse of sand and sea (a 10 minute walk at the most).





The Ionian Star is a comfortably sized establishment, and this ain't 'real estate' speak for small. It has around 20 rooms with 2, 3 or 4 beds and all with views, TV, mini fridge and air conditioner. There's free parking and even an area with swing and slide for the kids.

Breakfast is included in the reasonable price, and you can even take it to your room to enjoy on your private balcony.



Otherwise, the dining area which the buffet breakfast foods adorn is a fine choice - indoors or out. On the menu (at no extra charge) are 'loukoumades', which are like mini doughnuts (holes!), drizzled with honey and cinnamon. Delicious!





It's really worth making the effort of getting off the tourist trail and heading to the Ionian Star Hotel, as you can enjoy nature's delights but in a clean and comfortable environment.
