I am a married mother of 2 girls and I live in Perth. We emmigrated from the UK in 2011. I am a free lance writer and a Pet Carer and feel very lucky to do something I really love www.petfriends.net.au
If you are looking for something fun and different to do, this could be it! It is family friendly, as long as your children are over 6 years old, are competent and confident swimmers and are accompanied by a paying adult (18 plus). Prices start at just $15.00 per person, so it's a good price too.
So what is it? Aqua Mania FunnAs is an inflatable obstacle course in the ocean off the Rockingham foreshore. Think of the TV show 'Wipeout', with no moving obstacles, and that is pretty much it! When I say no moving objects, the inflatables do not themselves move, but there is movement from the ocean making the circuit bob up and down. This movement plus the course being wet, makes it interesting and challenging.
Arrive around 30 minutes before your session begins so you can complete the paperwork (you must read and sign a Rider Agreement), get your lifejacket fitted (which must be worn at all times) and listen to a brief talk about the do's and don't's. Then you wade into the ocean to the circuit. The water was crystal clear and was not too deep until you are almost at the circuit.
You can get on the circuit at any point, but there is blue landing platform with handles in the middle of the course, which they recommend you go to first as they can help you get on if required. I was pretty puffed out just getting to the course and getting on was not the most elegant of moves, but everyone is in the same boat!
The floating circuit includes balance beams, climbing walls, a high jump (you land in the ocean), a flip (a big cushion filled with air where one of you sits on the cushion and one or more participants jump on the cushion and the person sitting gets launched into the ocean), an action tower where you need to put yourself up the tower with the ropes and then slide down to the trampoline or jump off into the ocean. Yes, I did mention a trampoline, if you have any energy left to jump once you get to it! There is a spinner too where you rotate the spinner with your body motion to get it spinning, then try to stay on it! Like a water bucking broncho! Good luck with that one!
There are places to sit and have a rest along the course. I sat and watched how everyone else was doing things hoping to get some tips of what to do and what not to do! That didn't make a lot of difference in my case!
There is a lifeguard on duty in the tower at all times (there was two when we went) and participants are not allowed to climb on the tower.
The course is for all fitness levels and if there is a bit of the course you cannot do, swim round it! I did! It is exhausting, especially if you keep falling in and have to haul yourself back on. Everyone was helping everyone else get on and off after you realise it's quite hard to do it on your own, and towards the end you are all really tired. There was a lot of support from the other participants on our session with cheering you on to get up the ropes and balance beams etc and them clapping and cheering when you did!
I can honestly say, it was really good fun with lots and lots of laughter. I am by no means fit, or slim and I'm in my 40's and I enjoyed it as much as anyone who is fitter, slimmer and younger!
There are some site rules and entry conditions which I suggest you read before going to ensure an enjoyable experience. There are maintenance days too, so check their website for those dates or like their Facebook page to stay up to date with offers and relevant information.
It is open now until around the end of March. It is open 7 days a week, weather permitting. Sessions run on the hour and are 50 minutes long.
Make a day of it and pack a picnic. Enjoy the gorgeous shallow waters and numerous playgrounds on the Rockingham foreshore. If you don't want to take a picnic, there are plenty of places to eat or buy food very close by. There are toilets and showers in the vicinity too.
Aqua Mania FunnAs is located on the beach opposite the Rockingham Hotel, so park near there if you can.
Expect to get wet over and over again, expect to get a wedgie or two and expect tons of laughter and good fun! Just save some energy to get back to shore after your session finishes! It's a fabulous day out!
