IMAX Theatre, Darling Harbour

IMAX Theatre
IMAX Theatre located in Darling Harbour

Located right in the heart of the Sydney City, the Darling Harbour IMAX Theatre is the largest cinema screen in the world. The IMAX has recently undergone a significant upgrade with the installation of a new screen and will be re-opening on 19 February, 2012.

The IMAX experience is not just like watching another movie at the cinema. IMAX technology delivers crystal clear images, ten times larger than a traditional movie shown in the cinema. The screen is 29.42m high by 35.73m wide and covers an area of more that 1,015 square metres. The IMAX theatre screens films in both 2D and 3D.

Watching a film at the IMAX Theatre is more than just seeing a movie, it's an experience. Not only is the visual stunning, but the surround stereo sound is exceptional. This is definitely a unique venue and experience.

The IMAX Theatre caters for both adults and children, screening movies suitable across the full spectrum of age groups. Information about movies and session times can be found on the IMAX Theatre website.

One drawback of the massive screen is that it can sometimes make you nauseous. With the screen being so huge, the image fills your entire scope of vision and depending on what's on screen, your senses can get overwhelmed, causing that sickly feeling.

Eating before or after the IMAX movie

Being located in the beautiful Darling Harbour means that you can make a day - or night - of the IMAX experience. It's a nice walk from any direction, surrounded by great restaurants and eateries catering for all ages and groups.

The IMAX Theatre also has special promotional arrangements with many of the restaurants and eateries in the Darling Harbour precinct so be sure to check out their website for details of their current offers.

Right on the IMAX Theatre doorstep you'll find a mix of eateries, including takeaway options such as Subway, more casual dining at Eat Love Pizza and for the meat-eaters amongst us, the Food & Wine Company.

After the movie, enjoy your favourite gelato from Gelatissimo while sitting on the wooden steps around the waterfront.
