If you're one of those people who doesn't like to watch movies at home because you think "it'll look better on the big screen," then the IMAX experience might be for you. Screens really don't come any larger than the one you'll find at an IMAX cinema.
Movies are usually tailor-made for an IMAX screen, to take full advantage of their extraordinary size - and they don't skimp on sound quality either.
There are a few IMAX cinemas dotted around London, one of which belongs to the BFI. It's located on the south bank close to Waterloo station and has a screen more than 20 metres high, which is "nearly the height of five double-deckers," as the BFI describes it on its website.
Pulling together its state-of-the-art picture projection system with its digital surround-sound audio system capable of pumping out an ear-popping 11,600 watts of auditory pleasure, the BFI IMAX cinema makes for a pretty fun night out.
They've even put in brand new seating, so at least your bottom will be comfy, even if your neck begins to ache a little as you try to take in the enormity of the screen.
