Milestone birthdays are always special celebrations and I wanted to do something special for my partner's big 30. I started planning a party and thinking of gift ideas about 3 months before the big day, just so that I could ensure it would all be perfect.

I pretty much booked a venue, thought of a guest list for a surprise party and had everything else sorted except for the gift. I wanted it to be something he really needed and would remember for the rest of his life. This is where I need to thank my friend Lucy for the amazing idea she gave me, which drove me nuts but worked out brilliantly well.

I'm sure you are all itching to know what it was by now :) Ok I'll tell you. Lucy suggested that I make a list of 30 of his favourite things and get him all of them to make 30 gifts for his 30th. Super brilliant I say.

So the idea got me all excited and pumped up and I started making the list of his 30 favourite things.

Here is what my list started to look like
1. Favourite author
2. Favourite colour
3. Favourite Apple gadget
4. Most awaited upcoming movie (bought tickets for the same)
5. Favourite cuisine
6. Favourite dessert
7. Favourite alcohol
8. Favourite sport
9. Favourite animal
10. Favourite Comic character

and the list goes on..

Let me warn you, the toughest part is, you suddenly realise you don't know what your partner's favourite things are, and if that doesn't sadden you enough, you also realise how expensive this is getting because you are not buying 1 but 30 gifts.

By the time my list came to 24 I was wondering to myself why I never thought of this idea when he turned 25. It was really hard work. However I finally managed to make up 30 gifts. A couple of things that were useful to note are to combine a couple of favourites and buy 1 gift. For example I combined favourite comic character and colour and bought a tee for the same.

On the special day, I left the cake and gifts at a friend's place and took my partner to the restaurant where everything was set up and all our friends were waiting. Since morning he was itching to know what his gift was and when he saw 30 gifts waiting for him on the table he was pleasantly surprised. All in all a great idea and a great birthday. However I might want to point out the one thing that did not go well that day. It was the cake.

I bought the puppy cake from the shop Breadtop as my partner is a dog lover. The puppy cake however had a very bumpy car ride to the venue and turned out to be somewhat distorted when we opened the box as you can see below.

Everyone had a good laugh though.
