I have never been to a Korean barbeque restaurant before so it was a new and exotic experience stepping into Hwaro Korean BBQ restaurant.

The restaurant was full of life with people talking over the fire of their private BBQs. The menu was enticing, listing all types of marinated meats that you could devour; from beef to the succulent pork belly. The drink lists also displayed authentic Korean wine from black raspberry wine to plum golden leaf wine.

Once you were ready to order you just had to press a buzzer and your waiter would be at your service. The waiters were very knowledgeable and eagerly gave us some recommendations. We chose the chilli pork belly and two marinated beef dishes.

After we ordered, our private BBQ was placed on the table. It radiated some heat but it added to our Korean experience. Our meats were then placed on the fire and started to sizzle. The waiters grilled and cut the meat every now and then. So it wasn't a problem if you could not cook.

Our friendly waiters also brought out an endless array of dipping sauces, spicy cabbage, spicy salad, garlic, chilli, rice, mushrooms, lettuce and beans. In Korea you use all these ingredients with the BBQ meat to make a lettuce wrap. So we had a go at making our own wraps. They were delicious. My favourite was definitely the spicy pork belly. We also tried the black raspberry wine which was a lovely accompaniment to our meals.

This vibrant restaurant is located at 562 Little Bourke Street Melbourne. It is very affordable with meals ranging from $15 to $30. So if you want to try something a little bit different I would give Hwaro Korean BBQ restaurant a try.
