Movie marathons are fantastic for long empty days with friends; it's a good way to laugh and a good way to relax and catch up, as well as eating a ton of junk food!

So first and foremost, before I get into the movie lists, some key tips for fun movie marathons because let's be frank, if you're just going to sit there for 8 or so hours, you're going to get rather bored. So, what you need is lots of junk food, heaps of popcorn, lots of squishy chairs or pillows piled around your TV for everyone to be comfortable and preferably a game or two to play between movies to mix things up.

Also, unless you have a set playlist, you need some kind of voting system, otherwise ,instead of watching movies, you'll spend half your time picking movies. So if you're bothered to put in the effort for this method, I've found it works really well; everyone writes down their top 3 movie choices, with the first choice getting 3 points, second getting 2 and third getting 1 and then simply make a tally, and the movie with the most points wins out.

Okay, one more side note, although everyone loves catching up with their favourite TV shows like The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Breaking Bad etc, trying to marathon a TV series is HARD, I can't stress it enough - VERY HARD. A TV series is incredibly long, so if you try to watch a whole series, you will not make it!

Unless you're happy with only making it through a season - but I suggest you save it away for a rainy month by yourself.

So finally to the movies, the BEST movies for kids and teens alike are classics like The Lion King, Shrek, Toy-Story and Ice-Age because they simply never grow old! They're a fantastic length to marathon because they're about 4 movies long each, so you'll get through them just in the space of one sitting.

Those would be the one's I'd recommend doing straight off the bat because they always work so well, however there are many options for movie fun that you can choose from.

As you well know, there is a huge selection of great movies to marathon, however sometimes people think of their classic favourites but don't realise the side effects.

Harry Potter is classic but it can get a bit long because, well there are SO many movies, so an ideal event is to either do this over two days or, better still have a sleepover party.

Similarly Lord of the Rings is another of those super long movie marathons which takes forever, same as Star Wars, so for these you really need designated marathon breaks to keep you going.

A couple of other good kids marathons are movies like High School Musical or Pirates of the Caribbean where you can have themed fun while watching, such as having your friends dress up as pirates and eating chocolate coins and maybe buy an eye patch or sword or two from your local $2 store.

A great thing about themed marathons is that you can have a day of "PIXAR" movie marathons including UP, Wall-e, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Ratatouille and more.
Or, have a marathon of Disney Classics such as Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and the Little Mermaid. Because they are themed marathons you can pick however many movies you want to watch and there's no fear of not finishing your saga because it's always a let down if you've gotten through all the movies but one then you had to stop.

I do have to mention here as a side note, I can't have a movie marathon list without recommending Disney's Wreck It Ralph which I will say is probably one of my favourite movies of all time and I definitely suggest somehow slipping it into your movie list.

So when planning your movie marathon list, firstly, make sure your movie marathon isn't more than 8 hours (10 if you're older) long because there will be no way you're making your way through it all in one go without some kind of sleepover or double date in place.

Secondly, make sure you have some kind of movie playlist or you'll never pick which one to watch next.

Thirdly, movie marathons are long, so make sure you either pick the best movies in the world that you all love, or have some kind of break in the middle to stop your poor friends from falling asleep.

And don't forget to have fun!
