If you're taking the kids to a cafe or a restaurant and fear they'll be bored, here are some quick solutions on how to keep them entertained for the time being.

Conversation Flash Cards - Yes, children should be able to hold a conversation with each other, but to make it more interesting write up on a bunch of conversation topics on flash cards. One child chooses one and begins talking/asking questions about their topic. Make around 20, it should get the kids chatting in no time , some topics could include:

Favourite cartoon show
Least favourite food
Funniest place they've been
Scariest animal
Favourite school subject
Favourite computer game

Activity Books - These have been a real lifesaver for me. Buy a few emergency activity books, the ones that have stickers, mazes, word-finds, colouring pages, etc. Give each child a book and get them to do the activities in it - that simple.

Self Portraits - Bring along paper and pencils and get the kids to draw portraits of each other or themselves. Bring little mirrors as well so they can look at themselves.

Spot The Difference Books - Books that keep children occupied for a while such as spot the difference, finding an item, or Where's Wally are great books to bring along to cafes for the kids to look at. Entertaining and fun.
