doing something creative or you're appreciating the creative work of others, the possibilities are endless for how you can celebrate the month. New York is an incredibly creative city, so there is something for you to do every day in January and beyond.
Sell your crafts
If there are any crafts you're good at making but have been nervous about selling, consider International Creativity Month your chance to make some extra money. Try selling them on
Etsy,
eBay or even at craft fairs around
New York. Put aside your fears and take the leap. Keep in mind that things might not happen right away, but at least you started the process and can continue to work on things.
Take a class
There are so many creative classes you can take in NYC that it may be difficult choosing among them. If you're interested in dancing, look into
Broadway Dance Center. There are a variety of classes you can take at
The Art Students League of New York including printmaking, sculpture, and painting.
The Art Institute of New York City has many classes available including fashion design, digital film-making and graphic design. If there's anything you've been wanting to learn, consider International Creative Month your excuse to do so.
Visit galleries and museums
There's no shortage of
galleries and museums to visit across NYC. There are constantly shows and exhibits going on, so during January it's the perfect opportunity to discover them. Make an extra effort to visit ones you've never been to before; you may come across one you'll fall in love with.
Volunteer with others
One of the best ways to celebrate International Creativity Month is to volunteer with others and help them hone their own creativity. NY Cares has many such opportunities available including crocheting with seniors, painting murals at local schools, and helping schoolchildren with art projects. Spots are limited, so make sure to sign up in advance.
Make gifts for loved ones
Whatever your creative interest is, consider making gifts for loved ones. For example, if you love making desserts, make a batch of cookies or cupcakes to give away. You'll get to hone your creativity and do a nice gesture for someone you care about.
With so many ways to celebrate International Creativity Month, there's a good chance you'll be able to find even more hobbies you like to do that you can continue with long after the month is over.
