I have a house on Victoria Avenue, and on King William Road, and on Young Street. Then there is the beach house down at Moana , and the town house on North Terrace, I also have a few houses in North Adelaide. I don't actually own any of these houses, I don't live in any of them, I've never even set foot inside them. I picked them all up playing a little game I like to call House Spotting.

They say that people who live in areas with nice walking paths, parks, beaches, or lakes get more exercise. When you've got nice surroundings you want to get out of the house and go for a walk or ride around. In my opinion the only stimulation you need is a suburban street, and some imagination.

House Spotting isn't about jealousy, this isn't a chance for you to just stare longingly at the property of others. The rules are pretty simple, take a walk around you neighbourhood (or somebody else's) and pick out all of the houses that catch your eye. Take in everything that you can from the street view, just don't go exploring, we're not trying to get anyone in trouble for stalking or trespassing. Imagine the games your kids would play in the garden, and imaging the furniture you'd place inside it.

In my house on Victoria Avenue I'd have peacocks and baby elephants roaming the garden. I'd have a telescope in the tower for seeing the stars, and sometimes spying on neighbours. Inside there would be a huge playroom filled with thousands of dress-ups, and furniture that would feel at home inside Ayers House . As you can see, we're not striving for realism here.

House Spotting gives you a chance to appreciate your local neighbourhood, and give your mind an imaginative work out while you're at it. When you're out house spotting that 30 minute or 1 hour walk can seem to go a lot quicker, and it makes exercising in the suburbs more fun.

Are there any houses you've spotted, and if so what are your wild and crazy plans? Give it a go next time you head out for a walk and see how many houses you come back with. When your dream house comes up on Realestate.com at least you'll already have everything planned.
