The cakes are the main attraction at the Hopetoun Tea Rooms. There was a bit of a line to get in, yet our patience paid off once we scored a great table. The ambience is elegant, and it is great to see old historical charm well and truly alive in Melbourne.

The service was quite friendly, although this establishment to me turned out to b a little overrated on such an occasion. Sure the decor is fantastic, but with the crowds and a bucket of noise the charm quickly faded away. My chocolate cake arrived and it was well presented; although it did taste somewhat grainy and a bit hard. That was disappointing. Definitely overpriced for what you are receiving. Maybe the pastries could have been better, however to be really sure - any of their pastry dishes will need to be tried at least once to be appreciated.
