Our wish list for a weekend B&B was simple; get away from the annoying weekend housecleaning, enjoy some fresh air and not have a huge drive.

We soon discovered in Macedon. It took us 40 minutes to drive there and we found ourselves arriving at an old-fashioned house with a wide wisteria festooned veranda.

Our friendly host Chris was welcoming even though we were late and showed us into a private, specious apartment style room at the end of the veranda. There were plenty of seating areas, a comfortable bed, all the mod cons and a view out the windows leading from her little garden all the way across to the mist shrouded Mt Macedon.

We could pick what time we wanted our breakfast which included a really delicious muesli to start with, freshly squeezed orange juice, organic eggs, mushrooms and bacon and home-made bread.

And best of all, we were the only guests there and it was so quiet; the only thing that woke us in the mornings were the birds.

We spent the day exploring some of the walks around Macedon. It was one of the most relaxing weekends I've had in ages and a wonderful way to prepare for the week ahead.
