Fancy a fabulous feast washed down by some of the Gold Coast’s best wines amidst superb scenery? If that sounds like you, it’s time for a mouth-watering meander along the
Hinterland Food and Wine Trail.
The region is bounded by Nerang, Canungra, Tamborine and Oxenford. While you can make it a (long) day trip from any Gold Coast location, I personally wouldn’t attempt all 12 stops on the one day. Between wineries, breweries, distilleries, and yummy food stops, it might be a bit much.
The best way might be to do the entire trail over a couple of different days, or simply pick a few that tantalise your tastebuds. It’s safer too, as there’s only so much wine tasting you can do if you’re driving – or even of you’re not.

While everyone’s individual tastes vary, I reckon these are a few of the essentials. The
Witches Chase Cheese Company in Eagle Heights is a cheese-lover’s dream come true. Fine, hand-made cheeses include: Camembert, Washed Rind and unique Blue Cheese. Try, buy, learn about the cheese-making process and do try their fantastic homemade ice-cream. Ooh la la!
Another interesting one is the
Mount Tamborine Coffee Plantation, a fascinating, family-owned boutique plantation. Getting in amongst the growing and roasting of one of the world’s most famous beans is a fascinating learning experience.
O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyards is a picturesque boutique vineyard surrounded by the rainforests of the Lamington National Park. It features a historic Queenslander homestead and fabulous fine food and wine, while the
Mount Nathan Winery is home to Chinese good-luck trees that attract loads of bees, which are the secret behind the winery’s honey port and honey cream. Need I say more?
