High Tea for Timor/Many Threads Project

A high tea is always a fun way to gather and celebrate with friends.

The team at the Many Threads project
(http://www.manythreadsproject.com/
are inviting everyone to a high tea at the Stamford Plaza, Adelaide.
The event is on Sunday, July 6th from 2pm to 5pm.

The High Tea will include champagne or orange juice on arrival and Guest speaker Grace Pitanuki, program manager at Casa Vida, Timor-Leste.

Many Threads Project
The Many Threads Project was started in 2006 to support organisations that assist women and children in Timor-Leste by raising funds and raising awareness.

Timor-Leste - East Timor
Timor-Leste (commonly known as East Timor) has a population that is recovering from the after effects of a decades-long struggle for independence against Indonesian occupation. This severely damaged the country's infrastructure and killed at least a hundred thousand people.

The Many Threads Project is a volunteer initiative that seeks to support Timor-Leste in a number of ways including:
Buying and selling handicrafts made by women's groups in Timor-Leste, Fundraising for initiatives that support women and children; and supporting the East Timor Student Association - South Australia.

Casa Vida
Since its opening in 2008, Casa Vida has welcomed over 150 girls aged 3 - 18 years, who have been victims of sexual abuse, through their doors. Although it's located in Dili, Casa Vida cares for girls from all over Timor-Leste.

In addition to providing a safe home, counselling and education, Casa Vida also provides vocational training. This training assists girls to become happy, healthy, well-adjusted and skilled young women who are capable of transitioning from school to employment. The vocational training programs include a bakery, cafe and handicrafts business. Many Threads Project assists the handicraft business by purchasing their jewelry to sell in Australia at markets and other events.

The Many Threads Project team are delighted that Casa Vida's Program Manger, Grace Pitanuki, will be the guest speaker at their High Tea Fundraiser for Timor-Leste.
