Those who love their local music a little hard, garage and punk would already know that Fred has shaped the sounds of the scene for over three decades. He's played in numerous bands including SixFtHick, Blowhard, The Fred Band, Jim Rockfords, New Improved Testament, Public Execution and the Surfari Krishnas, just to name a few.

Now Fred faces a challenge bigger than fitting his drum kit onto the tiny stage at Ric's. Our beloved Fred is going through some tough times as he battles with cancer. Anyone who knows anything about independent performing artists knows they're often living on very little income, and what income they get usually goes right back into touring.

The music industry isn't taking this cancer lying down. Instead they're getting ready to rock the Chardons Corner Hotel in Annerley on Friday May 8th and the Prince of Wales Hotel Nundah on Saturday May 9th to raise money to help Fred and his family.

It's $15 entry on both nights with the Chardons Corner Hotel show featuring Blowhard, Flangipanis, Dick Nasty, Mouthguard, and Release the Hounds. Prince of Wales will be host to Shandy, Dirty F Holes, Boondall Boys, Fun with Explosives and Goldstool. As rumour has it, there may be more acts yet to be added to the list playing the gig which I can't really name here as the title contains an expletive. If you're okay with rude words you can check out the show's Facebook page here .

The My Cause page says, "Anyone that knows Fred knows he is one of the nicest guys around. He has helped shape the face of Australian punk rock and his own strange irreverent genre. He is the type of bloke that always goes out of his way to help people whenever he can and I think it's about time we help him through a tough time. The last thing he needs to be thinking about is how he is going to pay the rent or food or the next round of treatments."

There will also be some pretty cool raffle prizes on offer at the shows, including tattoo and music vouchers, artworks and more. If you'd like to show your support but you can't attend the gig, you can donate here.
