Upmarket while still casual, Hatch & Co delivers a great dining experience in the centre of Brisbane's newest hub, Gasworks Newstead. .

You know a place is good when you think that by turning up early on a week night, you would be able to wander in and secure a table - sorry to disappoint, as this is not the case here. Hatch & Co is so popular you must book to ensure you get to plot yourself a spot.

This restaurant has an open casual ambience, while its simple classic interior and exterior design make it comfortable to spend a couple of hours out with friends over fine food and wine.

Arriving early and ready to dine well before 7pm, we found the place was full of staff busy preparing for their full guest list quota for the evening. And yes, by the time we left all tables were occupied.

The menu is great with options for small plates, share plates, main meals or the super simple like pizzas for an easy bite.

Between four of us we had barramundi, pea risotto (which was absolutely devine), a gnocchi pasta dish, and a steak meal with chips, all fabulous tasting, leaving us completely satisfied. Service was pleasant and efficient.

Note: Sit out in the open area during the evenings for the front row seats to the ever changing lights of the Gasometer. Additionally if dining on a Friday or a Saturday night you will get to see the 'sound and light show' at 7pm sharp, running for 10 minutes.

This Newstead Hub offers a corridor of lifestyle options with a community feel and is perfectly positioned not far from James Street precinct, with easy access gained via the main road, Skyline Terrace.

Occasionally Sunday afternoons present live music under the Gasometer. This is also a nice time to be here as you can also bring a picnic and enjoy lazing around.

Parking Tip: Park under the Woolworths car park, accessed via Skyline Drive for the first two hours for free. (this should almost be enough time for you to wine, dine and play).

Keep up with Hatch & Co via their Facebook page. (until their website is up and running).

And just before we leave, how about desert?
