After spending an afternoon tasting the fine wines of the Yarra Valley, my partner and I decided it was time to part ways with the drinking and to get something to eat. This was when we stumbled across the Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company in Yarra Glen. It's hard to not have your curiosity piqued when you're on a slow drive along Bell Street because it's the only white neoclassical building to occupy the otherwise modest, quaint town.
We had ordered a serving of gnocchi and some onion rings - perfect ringlets, I might add - with a side of aioli. I had green tea, and he had a lovely summer apple cider.
It is one thing to step into a popular restaurant all your foodie friends say you should give a go - and it's another to discover an unassuming little gem like the Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company so far away from the city, exceeding expectations with its excellent food.
It's an ideal place to settle down with some food and drink before making the trip back to Melbourne - so why not give this brewery a go?
