Happy Little Dumplings
Happy Little Dumplings Bar
Awww, Happy Little Dumplings. The name alone just conjures up thoughts of smiley, cutesy little dumplings rocking back and forth on a serving plate waiting to be eaten.

A dumpling bar is not at all what I would have expected in Bulimba and truth be told, if they hadn't had their yum cha sign up closer to Oxford Street, I wouldn't have even known it was there. It's tucked away on Wambool Street in a section they sub let from Bijou Bulimba just on weekdays from 10am to 2pm.

Tofu and Ginger Dumplings

The fresh little parcels of dumpling goodness are served up from a window and you can take away or eat in. There's only a few tables out on the deck, but I'm not sure the word is out yet, as I've been there a few times and have been lucky enough to get a table.

The menu is interchanging and the little darlings wait to be devoured in a little bain marie tower that keeps them hot. The selection is varied, with chicken, pork, prawn and duck and for the vegetarians, tofu and mushroom. There's also delicious pork buns and for dessert, mango pancakes and Chinese egg tarts.

The times I've been there, the tower has been almost empty, but you can order off the menu and if they have them in stock, the lovely lady goes out the back and (I guess) steams them up fresh. Usually takes 10 minutes or so, not so long.

I've only had the tofu and ginger dumplings, served up on bamboo plates, and they were delicious. Fresh and hot with a selection of red vinegar, soy sauce or chilli sauce. The dumplings are $2.00 each or 6 for $10. I took the 6 for $10 and it filled me up. My dining partners all had a mixture of the chicken and pork ones which they declared "divine".

I love a good dumpling bar, and they seem to be popping up everywhere lately, but this is more casual and chilled, and from what I read from their website, it's an extension of their successful little market business. So you can take some home!

Love this place. The Happy Little Dumplings gave me a happy little tummy.
