The Hamer Arboretum Circuit Dog-Friendly Walk

Dog-friendly walking tracks can be hard to find in the hills, let me share one of the nicest walks you can do with your pooch in the Dandenong Ranges - The Hamer Arboretum Circuit Walk
From the Hamer Arboretum, Chalet Road, Olinda, walk down Dam Track, beside the BBQ's. Keep going, enjoying the views across to the Yarra Valley as you walk. Soon, a small dam is on the left, often looking pretty with reflections from the tall gum trees around the edge. Sequoias and some other specimen plantings are sign-posted along the trail.
At the top of the track, turn right and walk about 5 metres to an area called 'Lookout Rock'. There is very little to 'look-out' to these days as the trees are tall, but it is a lovely spot to sit a while and maybe have a snack. Take care, though, as it can be slippery and kids/dogs need to be watched.
To return, walk back up the track to where you joined it, and then continue up Rock Track to the road. Walk down the little track beside the road to return to the parking area.
The views at the Hamer Arboretum are stupendous, BBQ's and toilets available. It's a great place for a picnic.
This is my favourite walk with our dog,
only 3km's and about an hour. There are some hills, so reasonable fitness is required.
Please Remember: Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
