Gunnamatta Park is part of an extensive parkland area consisting of 14 acres on the water at Cronulla. It is a great spot for a family picnic or party because it has something to offer all ages.

The large grassy slope provides lots of open space for everyone to spread out under the shade provided by the large native trees, such as the Rough-Barked Apple-Gums.

A large pavilion is available for birthday parties and family gatherings and bookings can be made with Sutherland Shire Council via email or by phoning 9710 0231. Other picnic tables and smaller shelter sheds are available on a first come, first served basis.

At the shore, the sandy beach is great for small children. The water here is shallow and calm. At low tide the sand bars stretch out quite a way which makes a for serene place to take a walk, or a fun spot for kids to play, while the moored boats and yachts bob in the channel.

The middle section of the park features a deeper netted tidal pool that makes a great swimming spot. It is sometimes used by local water polo teams and senior swimming and fitness groups. It is perfect for thrill-seeking teens to burn off some energy as they jump from the high concrete walkways in to the deep water below, before climbing the ladder to do it all again.

It's not unusual to see fisherman hopefully dangling a line around the outer edges as they try to catch a dinner of Taylor, Whiting, Flathead or Bream.

On the Eastern side you can find a large children's playground for non-swimmers or for a change of scenery after lunch. It was designed with toddlers through to 8 year olds in mind. Here you can also find a large amphitheatre, seating 1000, that is used for local festivals and performances.

The calm waters and shaded grassy verge along the shore provide a wonderful atmosphere where parents can sit back and relax, while the kids safely splash and play. It's nice to sit there and dream of owning one of the beautiful homes that line the opposite shore over in Woolooware, or pick which of the boats you would most like to have.

Toilet and change facilities are available, including disabled access.

Gunnamatta Park is located on Nicholson Parade at Cronulla. It is a 15 minute walk from Cronulla train station and the Bundeena ferry wharf or car parking is available.
