OK, so who hasn't wanted to quietly have an Official World Record up their sleeve? World's Tallest Man? Most Hats Eaten By an Elephant? Fastest Human on Earth? If these are all a bit out of your league, live vicariously through your dog and qualify for not just one, but four world record attempts, at the World Record Dogs event in April.
To be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Sunday 28th April, 2013,
World Record Dogs are aiming to raise money for the
Lort Smith Animal Hospital and the
Lungta Animal Sanctuary . World record attempts will be in the following categories:
1. The Largest Dog Obedience Class
With the current world record sitting at 390 dogs, a dog obedience expert will supervise owners putting their dogs through some (light and easy) paces.
2. The Most Dogs Wearing Bandanas
Hard to believe, but organisers are aiming for 1000 dogs with bandanas. That's a lot of very posh dogs in one space. You can bring your own or buy one from a charity stall.
3.The Biggest Dog Massage Session
A specialist canine massage therapist will guide dog owners through how to give their 4 legged friends a relaxing and healthy massage. Lucky dogs. They need 500 or more dogs kicking back for a rub to break the record.
4. The Most Humans Face Painted Like Dogs
Really. Come along pre-painted or get your make up done on site for a small charge.
You have to pre-register for the event, and you can designate which of the 16 animal welfare charities will receive $5 from your ticket price of $19. Tickets can be purchased from the Lort Smith Animal Hospital or directly from the
event website . The ticket price allows participation in all 4 world record attempts. The event will be held indoors in the Exhibition Pavilion of the Melbourne Showgrounds, and there will also be exhibitors, displays and plenty of freebie giveaways.
If successful, once the attempts are verified by the Guinness Book of World Records, all participants will actually receive a certificate confirming their (dog's) participation in the World Record. Today a garden-variety (though much-loved) pet: tomorrow a (still much-loved) world record holder. Bragging rights or what.
