Note: This is a follow-up article from the original "Best 6 Dog Friendly Markets in Brisbane" article published in November 2016. The reason why popular Manly Harbour Village Farmers Markets was not included in this article is because the original article already reviewed them, with a focus on Jack & Penny's Dog Treats .

Markets are amazing places - there are always bargains to be found, exciting things to be discovered, and of course, fun to be had! But what makes markets even better for pawrents are when their beloved furbabies are welcome to come with - and that's what this article is all about. Thanks Eddy for sniffing out all the different stalls at all the dog friendly markets on Brisbane's Bayside, markets are certainly great when you're right next to Queenland's beautiful blue waters!

Disclaimer: This article reviews the following markets in no particular order, with a focus on stalls that cater specifically towards dogs. This article is also written with the acknowledgement that there may be additional businesses that cater specifically towards dogs who attend the covered markets, as well as the acknowledgement that stalls are not permanent and as such the businesses covered may not always be found at a particular market.
[SECTION]Wellington Point Markets[/SECTION]

%%Location: The Village Green, Main Rd, Wellington Point QLD 4160
Opening Times: Every 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month, 3pm - 8pm
Admission Fee: Free
Website: https://www.facebook.com/wellingtonpointmarkets/ %%

Currently under new management who are "trying to make this market prosper" and "grow it into one of the best", Wellington Point Markets is a small market with a great community mindset - management has stated that "the markets are held for the community and with the community". With a focus on art, craft, food, and of course, supporting local businesses, Wellington Point Markets is a growing enterprise comprised mostly of small businesses that no doubt have bigger and better things in store for them.

In addition to supporting your local businesses so that they can continue to grow and thrive for generations to come, there are so many positive reasons as to why one should visit Wellington Point Markets at least once:

  • Entry is free - why pay for entry, right?
  • Live music at no additional charge - do your shopping to only the best tunes!
  • Kids' entertainment is available in the form of a bouncy castle, to keep your children occupied and engaged - this means that parents can shop for longer and without pressure!
  • It's held in the evening, meaning that there is no need to drag yourself out of bed - after all, weekends are meant for sleep-ins, agreed?

  • Allira Batstone Photography

One stall that is a must-visit for all pet owners (not just dogs!) is Allira Batstone Photography , a photography business that specialises in pets. Allira self-proclaims to have three passions in life - family, animals, and photography. Born an animal lover, Allira was always drawn to them from a young age and she "finds [herself] constantly saying "Hello" to them before [she does] to people"! Allira has a custom built pet photography studio in Alexandra Hills, and also provides services to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Allira Batstone Photography's stall at Wellington Point Markets is a great opportunity to check out Allira's beautiful folio of pet portraits, and purchase photo session vouchers (EFTPOS is available). In addition, depending on weather, mini photo sessions are run at the market itself from just $15.00! The 'photo booth' sessions usually run until about 5pm (depending on light).

    Kimberley Kapers

Note: The following photos are from Kimberley Kapers' stall at Early Bird & Breakfast Markets , but Kimberley Kapers also holds stalls regularly at Wellington Point Markets with the exact same stock.

For those of you who are both parents and pawrents at the same time, Kimberley Kapers will become your new favourite market stall ever. Kimberley Kapers caters for all babies, both human babies and furbabies! If that's not convenience, then I'm not sure what is. Owned by Linda, Kimberley Kapers has an impressive range of products, with two packed tables for the furbabies (one for treats and one for clothes), and one packed table for the human babies.

Kimberley Kapers has an impressive collection of pet clothing items available for purchase, with heaps of unique choices - these aren't your average run-of-the-mill pet clothes! From cowboy hats to watermelon shirts, there's bound to be a piece of item that suits your pet perfectly, to help them stand out from the rest - not that they don't already, of course! Dogs who come to the markets with their owners are more than welcome to try on anything they fancy, to make sure that the items fit before buying. There's even a special 'dressing room chair' that pups are welcome to sit on and feel pampered while they get changed!

Kimberley Kapers also has heaps of dog treats to choose from. Linda has recently started making her own 100% natural treats, which come in lots of different flavours, many of which are named after actual human foods. Now you can say that you and your pooch have had spaghetti and meatballs together! Her current flavours of treats include:

  • Spaghetti and Meatball
  • Cheesy Chips
  • Peanut Butter Balls
  • Honey Scrolls
  • Banana Split (gluten free)
  • Cheese Burger
  • Honey Pork Ribs
  • Vegan Dog Treats

  • These treats generally come in small packets, but there is also the option of purchasing a family assorted box, which contains a mix of all the treats.

In addition to making their own treats, Kimberley Kapers also stocks pet treats from Bow Wow Chow , who caters to both dogs and cats. Bow Wow Chow's dog treats take the form of 'pupcorn' (yes, that's dog popcorn!), with a range of flavours including banana, meatloaf, cheeseburger, coconut ice, and even lasagna! Cats have an assorted range to choose from, including beef bark and marinara bark.

To top it off, Wellington Point Markets have stalls that cater to a wide variety of audiences - with so much different choices available, there's bound to be something that suits you and your close ones! Although by no means an extensive list, here are some of the stalls that have attended Wellington Point Markets before, and are likely to continue to do so:

  • Soy-O-Licious - home-made soy candles & melt
  • Redlands Cupcakes - delicious home made style cupcakes

Plus, don't worry about your kids getting up to mischief out of boredom, because Twilight Makers Market has kids' entertainment sorted for the night with heaps of free activities. And why stop at bringing just your human kids along, when your furbabies are also welcome at Twilight Makers Market? Pawrents here will be able to spoil their pooches with yummy treats, health products, and of course, handmade pet accessories!
    Furrtrition Pet Products

Owners of Furrtrition Pet Products Lynn and Jeff (affectionately known by many as "The Furry Dogparents") started Furrtrition with the aim of helping as many furbabies as possible. Several years ago, Lynn and Jeff lost a furry family member, Seska, who had suffered from many ailments throughout her life - Lynn and Jeff ensured that Seska stayed a happy girl till the very end, by helping her manage ailments such as stiff joints, itchy skin, and Pancreatitits, with omega oils, mussel extracts, and home-cooked dinners - the knowledge they gained from Seska, coupled with ongoing research and development of products, is incorporated into Furrtrition's range including homemade treats, grooming products, and dietary supplements.

Furrtrition has a wide range of homemade baked biscuits made using a range of ingredients with health benefits (for example, using banana for potassium) - no preservatives are added. Their flavours of biscuits can be purchased either in a larger 'Big Boys' size or in a more petite size for smaller breeds, and come in an assortment of interesting shapes. One of their flavours is called 'Stinky Feet' (which of course is cut into the shape of a foot!), which contains cheese and vegemite. Furrtrition also have 'wuffins' available - yum!

Furrtrition has also established their own line of organic health products, including coconut oil, 'food plus' supplement oil, turmeric sprinkle, shampoo, conditioning flea wash, eyewash, ear wash, anti-itch spray, cream, foot/paw soak and even 'purrfume'! Because all products are made by Lynn and Jeff, they are happy to answer any questions you might have about these products - after all, they're the ones who know their own products best! They also have handouts available at the markets on the benefits of some of their products.

And finally, in addition to staying healthy by eating preservative free treats and using supplemental health products, every furbaby also strives to look good! Furrtrition have a range of collars, bowties, neckties (and much more) including seasonal choices at certain times of the year. If your body is going to look good on the inside (i.e. health), then you might as well look good on the outside too, right?

    Frankie & Emmett

Starting as a single jumper, Frankie & Emmett is now a mother-daughter enterprise specialising in handmade pet couture "fuelled by a love of crochet, sewing, and dogs". Established only this year in 2016, Frankie & Emmett already have lots of happy customers who have provided positive feedback on social media, and are definitely on the road to much bigger successes. The idea behind the business takes shape in the form of a sassy black pug called Frankie - with Frankie having a soft spot for playing dress-up, it is only right that she be hired as Chief Executive Pug and have the company named after her!

Alongside Frankie, there is also another pug on the team, who goes by the name of Archie.- Archie's role in the team is Chief Cuddle Officer! You can follow Frankie and Archie's pugventures on Instagram . There is also Emmett, a plush cow, who is in charge of sending out orders by post. Of course, the true hard work boils down to the mother-daughter team, who together manage everything from launching and managing their Etsy , Facebook , and Instagram pages, promoting their business by attending local markets, and of course, designing and creating merchandise. These three main things involve, of course, countless other 'jobs' such as sourcing material and equipment, photographing products, responding to messages, and of course, managing the finance aspect of the business - just to name a few!

Frankie & Emmett have in stock an extensive line of handmade pet clothes, including bowties, bandanas, gowns and dresses, t-shirts, and hoodies. There are so many amazing patterns to choose from for bowties and bandanas, it'd be hard to buy just one! Bowties can easily be slipped on to any collar using the sturdy elastic loops stitched to the back, and bandanas are fully reversible - it's like getting two bandanas for the price of one! Frankie & Emmett also do customised orders to ensure that your "pooch is snug as a bug" - if you're after a particular colour, size, length or design, please contact Frankie & Emmett directly through Facebook message or email ([email protected]).

    Handmade Pet Accessories

Pat from Handmade Pet Accessories is a very talented lady who crafts all her products by hand as part of a one-woman business. A quick look at Handmade Pet Accessories' Facebook page, and you will soon see reviews from some very happy customers:

Pat does fully customisable orders for her whole line of products - yes, that's everything from small bowties to massive pet beds! In fact, Pat even posts pictures of her available material on Handmade Pet Accessories' Facebook page, giving customers the option to choose from her range of fabrics that she will then use to make your order - the final product is truly one-of-a-kind and personalised!

As a final note, it's worth noting that Handmade Pet Accessories', unlike the majority of market stalls, accepts Paypal, Mastercard, and Visa.

    [SECTION]Manly Creative Market[/SECTION]

    %%Location: 453 Esplanade, Manly QLD 4179
    Opening Times: Every Sunday 8am - 3pm
    Admission Fee: Free
    Website: https://www.facebook.com/Manly-Creative-Market-112535492143528/ %%

Manly Creative Market is another great little market on the bayside right by the water. With many stall holders chatting and greeting each other warmly, in addition to enthusiastically introducing guests to their products, Manly Creative Market gives off a warm community vibe that is both natural and inviting - even newcomers would feel right at home here. Cemented with live music and kid's entertainment, Manly Creative Market's vibrant and fun atmosphere makes it a great family activity on a Sunday. They're open every Sunday of the year, even Christmas and New Year's. The best part is that unlike most markets which close around noon, Manly Creative Market keeps the party going until 3pm - you can have your Sunday sleep-in without missing out on the markets!

Some of the businesses that hold stalls at Manly Creative Market include (but is definitely not limited to):

  • Nikkies Nik Naks - affordable gifts for absolutely everyone
  • Snap Button Beauties - interchangeable snap buttons and accessories
  • Natural Wonders Botanical Skincare - natural skincare products that work wonders
  • Himalayan Connection - hand sourced Nepalese & Himalayan products
  • Mellow Moods - over 40 fragranced oils available
  • Forever Fun - always looking for ways to bring colour into our life
  • The Beach Tribe - handpicked beach accessories inspired and created in Bali
  • Charlie 'n' Rose - babies, toddlers & children's wear

  • Aussie Dog Treats

Aussie Dog Treats have been operating at Manly Creative Market for the past two years. Bob, owner of Aussie Dog Treats, has sourced for his customers 30 varieties of Australian made treats to choose from - seeing as these treats have come from the same source for the past 7 years, they must be of good quality! This stall is literally paradise for doggies, with Bob being a generous man when it comes to sharing treat samples, and a refreshing communal water station available too.

In addition to sourcing quality treats, Aussie Dog Treats also have available smoked treats (beef rib bones, lamb necks, beef necks) that are personally done by Bob. These smoked treats are very popular - much to Eddy's dismay, they were completely sold out early on in the day, so get in nice and early if you want to lay your hands (paws?) on some of these goodies!

Bob also manufactures "Bob's Blend", a spray to help dogs freshen up in between baths to get rid of any unwanted doggy odour. Bob's Blend comes in two flavours - "Old Fashioned" (a blend of lavender and baby powder), or "Aussie Bush" (a blend of tea tree and lemon grass). They both smelled heavenly, and Eddy definitely smells a lot nicer now - sorry buddy!

Note: Bob has a collection tin for Fresh Start Rescue Inc , a non-profit rescue organisation, at the Aussie Dog Treats' stall. If you could make a donation big or small it would be much appreciated.

    Handmade Homemade Pet Products

Handmade Homemade Pet Products (HHPP), true to their name, crafts pet products by hand as a run-from-home business. HHPP's line of quality handmade pet products that are made locally in Brisbane include a range of harnesses, collars and leashes. They also have available a range of chew toys and treats, including pig ears, roo tail, and beef chews.

    Huds and Toke

Although the stall itself was not run by Huds and Toke themselves, the Christmas Paws' stall sold only Huds and Toke treats. Huds and Toke are based on the Sunshine Coast, and specialise in baked gourmet dog treats with no melt frosting - that's right, the treats don't melt, even in this hot summer weather! In case you're wondering what Huds and Toke means, the name came about when the owners overhead their young boys playing with their imaginary pet dragons, who they named 'Huds' and 'Toke'! Who would've known that a business named by a 5 and 3 year old then go on to win an Innovation Award, a Business of the Year Award, and a Business Women of the Year award for Emma-Louise (the owner)?

Warning - Huds and Toke's treats are very aesthetically pleasing. Although they look good enough for people to eat, contain no "nasties" and are low in fat, it's important to bear in mind that they are specifically designed for dogs, not humans!

Eddy had a wonderful time at Manly Creative Market - he made lots of new treasured memories, and, as he always does, walked away with some tangible souvenirs too...

Have you been to any of these markets and/or visited any of these stalls? If yes, which one(s) were your favourite? Have we left out any of your favourite markets or stalls? Please do leave a comment down below to let Eddy and I know your thoughts!
