For an energetic day out, the Grand Canyon Track near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains is a great chance to exercise whilst enjoying a range of beautiful scenery.
Evans Lookout
Starting with beautiful views from Evans Lookout, this walk descends into the Grand Canyon taking you through rainforest, creeks, waterfalls and pools, from towering cliffs to serene valleys. At just over 5km and approximately 3 hours in length, this walk really gives you a taste of what the Blue Mountains has to offer all in one day.
Grand Canyon
While the walk is well maintained and sign-posted, you'll still almost feel as if you've stepped back in time wandering this pristine section of the National Park. The walk is perfect for hot days, as the shade of the canyon and its waterfalls keep most of the walk cool and out of the sun.
The start of the walk is easy to find, just follow the signs at Blackheath from the Great Western Highway, turning off at Evans Lookout Road. There's a carpark specifically designated for the Grand Canyon walk and from there you can follow the signs in whichever direction you choose; the walk is a circuit that will take you right back to the carpark.
If arriving by public transport you can take the Blue Mountains train line and get off at either Katoomba or Blackheath stations, and then a bus to Evans Lookout Rd; check

For those who are feeling particularly adventurous, the Grand Canyon can be combined with the Cliff Top and Braeside Walks, also sign-posted from the carpark. These walks will add at least an extra 4km to your trip, so make sure you leave early and pack plenty of food and water. Check the National Park website for the latest updates on closures
