"Flesh" Free Photographic Exhibition at the Powerhouse

Now on display at The Brisbane Powerhouse is the intriguing exhibition of photographer, Graham Burstow's collection, "Flesh". The photographs document life on The Gold Coast during the 60s, 70s and 80s.

During regular holidays to the Gold Coast with his family, Graham was able to move freely among the beer belly contests, sun-girl quests, tug-o-wars and spraying of mutton bird oil on every shape of body with his camera and a keen eye for social documentary.

Mr Burstow was introduced to photography at the age of seventeen by his brother who was a member of the Toowoomba Grammar School's camera club and he has continued with a love for the art of photography for over 70 years.

Graham is a life member and Patron of the Toowoomba Photographic Society and is the first Queenslander to have achieved a Fellowship in each of the Australian, British, and American Photographic societies. In 2004 Mr Burstow was presented with an Order of Australia Medal for services to photography.

The first book of his prints "Touch Me" was published in1998 and his second, "Flesh", will be launched with the exhibition.

The exhibition runs until the 2nd on November in the public areas of The Powerhouse in New Farm and is free.
