Govinda's
I love movie theatres with a little bit of character and one of the most characterful in Sydney is Govinda's, a kind of one-stop-shop for yoga and movie enthusiasts.
You get to lounge about on almost horizontal sofas without any armrests or tables getting in the way (great for dates). It's so comfy you'll need to see an interesting movie or you will be travelling the land of nod.
Govinda's can be found in the always fun suburb of Darlinghurst, in the inner east. It's a very walkable distance from the city centre (about 30 minutes), you can usually find a park, or catch a bus down Oxford or William St.
There are lots of great restaurants in Darlinghurst however for the full experience I would recommend that you eat at Govinda's itself before the movie. The food matches the decor. In fact they offer a $28.60 all you can eat vegetarian buffet and movie ticket deal.
The movies they show are an odd mix of latest blockbusters, old favourites, and international cinema. You can view the schedule here.
Booking beforehand is not usually necessary, however on a Friday or Saturday night I would recommend it.
Why? Much more fun than a regular cinema and good for your karma.
WHEN: Evenings
WHERE: Darlinghurst
COST: $12.80 or $28.60 for dinner and movie
