Falling on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (June 5-8, 2009), Melbournians will be able to head down to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre for the return of the country’s largest food and wine exhibition –
The Good Food & Wine Show.
In the past it has attracted international celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein and Ainsley Harriot. And this year, it brings back one of the more controversial celebrity chefs, Gordon Ramsay who will be showing off live-on stage his kitchen talents at the
LG Celebrity Theatre.
From The Good Food and Wine Show website, the exhibition director, James Laing says:
“Visitors to the Show this year will have the exclusive opportunity to learn Gordon's kitchen secrets or meet the man himself at the signing of his latest book, 3 Star Chef.”
But if you’re not his biggest fan, you’ll also be able to check out Aussie chefs including Fifteen’s Tobie Puttock getting hands-on with some Italian cooking or The Chopping Block’s Matt Moran.
Throughout the day you’ll also be able to sample food and wine from hundreds of exhibitors. Head to
Lyndey Milan’s Regional Producers Markets where local producers who have been handpicked by Lyndey herself will be showcasing their jams, chutneys and wines. You’ll be eating and drinking so much you won’t even need to stop and think about having lunch!

For those who much prefer to sit down head to the
Lindemans Early Harvest Restaurant to enjoy a three-course meal cooked by renowned chefs as you watch the buzz of the exhibition pass by. Or learn to cook yourself a gourmet meal at home by taking a 90-minute session class with the
Gourmet Garden Cooking School before mingling with other wine enthusiasts at the
Riedel Masterclass.
Top the day off and unwind at the
[yellow tail] Vinyl Bar after a treacherous day of eating and drinking, and have your picture taken and transformed onto an album cover.
For the first time, there will also be a
Friday Night After Dark session between 6-9pm, perfect for those just getting off from work wondering how to kick off the Queen's Birthday long weekend.
