There have been more column inches dedicated to Tiger Woods' private life lately than his golfing prowess. Whatever you thoughts are of the man you can't dismiss the fact that he is a golfing legend.
If Woods' performance at the Australian Masters inspired you to get your nine iron out then why not hit some balls at
Albert Park Golf and
Albert Park Driving Range. It's a fun sport that the whole family can enjoy, it's a gentle exercise that gets your blood pumping and is oh so fashionable at the moment.
Only 2km from the CBD the Albert Park Golf Course surrounds Albert Park Lake and so it's actually situated around the racetrack of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix – you can't get much sportier than that.
There are a range of golfing activities on offer; if you want a private lesson - whether you're a complete novice or (you think) you're the next Tiger Woods, there are PGA professionals on hand to guide you, they also offer group lessons (which is friendlier on the wallet), a practice range (with a bar so you can enjoy a cold beer whilst practising your swing – I feel it helps me with mine), the 18 hole championship golf course and all with Melbourne's beautiful city skyline in full view.
There's also a shop where you can get all the latest golf gear and clothing, so that you can look the part. And you can also buy your own set of clubs which you can "try before you buy" on the practise range, but you can hire clubs if you're just a casual golfer.
The range is 250m long with 60 bays (45 of which are covered so you don't have to stop if it starts raining.) When dusk hits the floodlights are switched on so you can swing into the night – perfect date material.
