Not too big, not too small, but just right.

Perched on top of a Chinese restaurant sits this adorably quaint rooftop bar and all round great venue for anybody who, like me, enjoys the slightly naughty feeling you get when you are getting tipsy in a venue that makes you feel like a kid again. As the elevator doors opened, the males in our group stomped straight towards the bar whilst the females giggled and cooed over the cutesy treetop wallpaper and the three bears wall art. We managed to grab a great table in the cosy library-esque area of the bar where we perched on Winchester sofas and admired the fairy tales on the bookshelves whilst the men handled the drinks.

Goldilocks' menu offers six unique cocktails, each in keeping with the dreamy and whimsical theme of the bar. I have to be honest, I was a little nervous when I read what was in my Drunken Chicken Sazerac. Hennesey VS, Peychaud's Bitters and Chicken fat-washed ginger syrup may sound like a stomach churning concoction, but I have to admit it was rather delicious (although one was enough.) My friends sipped on slightly less outrageous cocktails filled with red capsicum and tea syrup. Naturally, I taste tested everyone's drinks and concluded that one cocktail is definitely enough at Goldilocks.

Once we switched to cider, we found ourselves immediately sucked in by the warm atmosphere and ending up staying for much longer than we intended to. We couldn't resist the food options available and decided to order some 3 Little Pig Sliders and sweet potato chips. One thing that I have noticed from this dining experience is that if you want to get the male sex excited about a fairy tale themed bar, take something as simple as a pork slider and stick a quirky name on it. Men love giving their food a personality, then heroically destroying it in a few bites. Unfortunately, our 3 Little Pig Sliders were disappointingly only OK and after one bite I decided that the sweet bun was not to my liking and I left it for someone else to gobble up. The chips were nothing special too.

After the food we headed past more cutesy wall murals and up to the rooftop in search of Goldilocks. Goldilocks was M.I.A, but what we found was a comfortable amount of trendy people enjoying the views and the ambiance. Not too busy, not too empty, but just right. After more drinks and a great evening it was time to leave. After the pork slider incident, I may have left Goldilocks hungry but the Chinese restaurant downstairs conveniently sorted that out. Food aside, this is a great bar that offers up an escape from reality in the middle of the city.

More fairy tale themed bars please Melbourne!
