The
White Hills Public Cemetery is cloaked in a golden Chinese history from the moment you walk through its ornate gates. Arriving at the Cemetery, you find it nestled among shady gum trees and there are two huge Moreton Bay Fig trees just inside the gates.
A myriad of stone tablets lies before you on entering the cemetery grounds. Tablets of all sizes, inscribed with Chinese calligraphy, bob across a sea of green grass almost as if each is asking for their individual story to be heard. If only we were able to hear the stories that these tablets beckon to tell.
Many cemeteries are located in the midst of busy populated areas, but this one offers a walk with scenic country views, peace, and tranquillity that gently whispers stories of gold rush days and often a brief life for many on the goldfields.
