Perth is blessed with a magnificent river connecting the CBD with the port town of Fremantle. For the tourists - and those living under a rock - it is the Swan river, and the best way to see it is to get out in the middle of it.

Golden Sun Cruises has been operating on the Swan for over 20 years, so you might say they know a little about the place. The Fremantle cruise is a one-hour trip departing from Barrack street jetty up to three times a day.

The price of admission onto the bright yellow boat is just $18 or $25 return. On board are basic snacks, tea and coffee, soft drinks and a small selection of alcoholic beverages and I must say, a beer on the river goes down an absolute treat!

[ADVERT]There are three seating options available. The first aboard will usually go to the front with the comfortable cushioned booths right behind the skipper. The middle of the boat is set up with tables and seats or if you like (and don't mind engine noise) you can sit outside on the back of the boat.

The whole setting is very casual, highlighting the colloquialism that Australia is so famous for amongst the tourists. This is reflected in the live commentary. It is informative yet simple, often humorous and most importantly is not pre-recorded.

The commentary highlights various features of our river including the Old Brewery , the homes of the rich and famous , natural features such as Point Walter and Blackwall Reach as well as telling the guests about what to see and do around town. For tourists you can forget about tour guides and brochures, a trip on the ferry will give you more than enough ideas to get the best out of Perth and surrounds.

Golden Sun have a few other services on offer as well. For $45 you can catch a scenic cruise up river towards Guildford. They offer down river ($50) and up river ($68) luncheon cruise options or both ways for $93. They also have a large private function boat available at a much more wallet friendly price than their competitors.
