If you enjoy going to the go-kart track on weekends, or if one of the things you make sure you do on vacation is ride go-karts, you may think that you won't be able to do that in New York City. The locals already know that isn't the case, and now you do, because here are some places in New York City that you can ride go-karts.

So, grab your helmet, strap yourself in, and hang on. You're about to go go-kart riding in the Big Apple.

Karts Indoor Raceway

A short drive out to Long Island will bring you to Karts Indoor Raceway, a go-kart track designed with plenty of fun but also lots of safety factors in mind. To start with, riders are secured into the electric go-karts by 4-point safety belts.

Once the driver is securely buckled in, the go-kart speed is remote controlled. The driver starts out slow in "pit lane", and then the speed is increased as the race progresses. However, if a driver gets too reckless or deliberately violates the rules, the Karts Indoor Raceway staff can cut the power to that person's go-kart in half, so that no one will get hurt.

Pole Position Raceway

A quick trip through the Holland Tunnel and on down I-78 will bring you to Pole Position Raceway. This venue allows you to literally be able to walk in the door and be ready to race within a few minutes of your arrival. That's because the races last approximately 10 minutes, meaning that everyone gets an equal chance to drive the adult or kid's karts (your height will determine which one you drive.)

If you want to bring a group and reserve a longer driving time, you can. You can also make arrangements to rent the entire facility for a specific time period. Church groups and youth organizations can take advantage of this offer.

Staten Island Go Karts

If you live close to Staten Island, you're just a few minutes away from Staten Island Go Karts. If you live further out, just use any of the public transportation options or take the short drive to get to this go-kart track, which just happens to be located on the grounds of a small amusement park.

The go-kart track allows you to ride go-karts for five minutes. This gives you enough time to really enjoy your ride but still allows everyone to have a turn. Don't worry about getting bored while you're waiting for your next five-minute turn, though. You can take advantage of the batting cages, mini golf course, and other activities that are available at the amusement park.

This is a perfect date idea. It's something different and definitely not boring -- plus it'll get your adrenaline pumping. A little competition never hurt anyone. There's a lot of amazing places to eat nearby, so it's a good opportunity to bet on who pays for dinner haha.
