These are four great things about : $1 bagels, free wi-fi (that actually works really well!), space and jazz.

The cafe/bakery is one of an Australian chain that started in Victoria in the 1960s. Mr and Mrs Glick set up a tiny store in Caulfield, Melbourne, initially selling freshly baked cakes and cookies. But their business really took off when Mr Glick, remembering a special bagel recipe he'd learned twenty years previously, began mixing, boiling and baking. It wasn't long before crowds starting flocking to the bakery on Sunday mornings to get their bagel fix.

Over thirty-five years later, Mr Glick's is a wholesale phenomenon, creating 70,000 bagels per week from its Carnegie-based factory. Mr Glick still works 70 hours over six days, every week.

has an array of bagels on offer: plain, sesame seed, poppy seed, wholemeal, onion and caraway for savoury lovers; cinnamon and sultana, blueberry and choc chip for the sweet-toothed. There are even mini-bagels on the shelf. Other baked treats include a variety of breads, which are purchasable by the loaf. Priced from $2.50 to $5.00, they come in several different flavours, including rye with caraway, sunflower and barley, soy linseed and fruit. All products are kosher.

There's an extensive breakfast menu (served until 2pm) and lunch menu (served between midday and 3pm) available. Breakfast ranges from $9 for homemade toasted muesli with nuts, yoghurt and fresh fruit to $18.50 for a 'Glick's big brekkie', which includes garlic mushrooms, balsamic tomatoes, wilted spinach, smoked salmon, a bagel, and a coffee or juice. Lunch options include a mini pizza ($5.50), filled bagels (from $7.50), corn fritters ($13.90) and a roast vegetable stack ($14.90).

The seating is spacious, so both working and socialising are easy and comfortable. Plus, recorded jazz is usually on high rotation, lifting the atmosphere without being obtrusive.

is located at 99 Hall St, Bondi Beach. Opening hours are Mon-Thurs 7am-4pm; Fri 7am-3pm; Sunday 7am-3pm. It is closed on Jewish holidays.
