Strung with hundreds of red Chinese lanterns and stretching over one kilometre, Gui Je (as it is officially known) is Beijing's most famous eating street. It is definitely up there on the 'must do' list on any trip to the city, if for no other reason than to take in the dizzying array of eateries and soak up the ambience and aromas of more than 200 restaurants.

It is also one to note for the after-hours club as most places are open 24 hours, although don't just leave it for late night drunken munching. Ghost Street is the place to sample excellent gustatory delights as long as you don't mind having to choose from an exhausting selection of menus.

All kinds of Chinese cuisine from various provinces is served, especially the fiery and delicious food from the Szechuan region. However, the thing to eat here is most definitely the famous and delicious 'Peking Duck' - one of Beijing's most well known exports. This dish can also, bizarrely, be found in vegetarian version in most restaurants - fashioned out of tofu (I think) but bearing a very close resemblance to the real deal - skin and all.
